An extraction describes the complete removal of a troubled tooth. Since the efforts of the staff at Diamond Bar Surgery Center are centered on saving teeth, this is usually avoided at all costs. Root canals or crowns are always the first choice, but sometimes a tooth has become so badly infected and decayed that extraction is required. So if you are experiencing pain or tooth decay you should contact Diamond Bar Surgery Center as soon as possible to prevent unnecessary loss. Extractions are also sometimes used before dental implants are placed, or in preparation for a denture fitting. Dr. Adams will sedate the patient so they feel no pain and, using a pair of dental forceps, clamp on the tooth and pull it out. Depending on the placement of the removed tooth, and if he feels that it may inhibit the functions of your mouth, Dr. Adams will recommend the use of a dental implant or dental bridge to close the gap. Another form of extraction is used when the patient has impacted wisdom teeth. These are the very back molars that usually appear during the mid to late teenage years. When they are impacted, or crooked, they risk damaging the surrounding teeth. Dr. Adams will surgically remove them while using full sedation.
