It is no longer true that a permanent tattoo will forever stay on the body of a person. Today's tattoo removal methods have proved to be beneficial to anyone who wants to get rid of their tattoos.

You may have changed your mind about having a tattoo because of a new job, new relationship or new life. But irrespective of the reason, there are many options available for you that will address your concern in a safe and effective way.

Laser tattoo removal, for example, is a treatment method which uses a laser to penetrate the ink and break it down. For average sized tattoos, it will require 8-10 sessions to complete the treatment, but it may take longer when the tattoo is large and more colorful. You can feel some pain but not something that you cannot tolerate. Further, the application of intense pulsed light (IPL) can also be considered, just like how laser is used. The difference is that compared to laser, the IPL technology uses a more intense light to burn the ink.

The biggest advantage of utilizing a laser for the removal of a tattoo is the minimized or zero skin scarring on the affected area and even on the surrounding skin. This is because the method is done by applying and controlling intense laser beams directly to the part of the skin with tattoo. These laser beams are able to penetrate the ink and break it up without scarring the skin layer.

In laser tattoo removal, the dermatologist or surgeon ensures he uses precise width of the laser beam as well as the wavelength (or color) of the light. Different wavelengths are used to destroy different tattoo ink colors.

Dermabrasion is another option to be considered, though this may cause more pain than laser or IPL treatment methods. With dermabrasion, a process called "sanding" is done to scrape off the skin layer that shows the tattoo and to let the skin heal and regrow. This, however, is not the most advisable method to use due to the scarring it may cause.

True, you don't just have to spend money but time and effort also if you wish to remove an unwanted tattoo. But because it is something you really need to do, it is best that you optimize your resources and time by finding the best option that works for you.
